Show your reelness! Dancers and Film-makers alike are invited to explore dance filmmaking possibilities in a creative workshop with Vancouver’s Festival of Recorded Movement Artistic Director, Sophia Wolfe.
In this workshop, we will experiment and play with ways we can capture and record movement through the camera. We will start with a group warm up that will guide us into our bodies, and then into our filmmaking senses.
We will lead into tasks where you will have a chance to be the mover in front of the camera and the mover holding the camera. How do the two respond to one another? How do they connect an influence one another? We will look for ways we can accentuate and highlight our motions through the lens.
This workshop is open to anyone who wants to move their bodies, meanwhile, discovering new ways of capturing movement on film.
What to bring:
-comfortable clothes to move in
-a camera if you have one! DSLR or even a smart phone.
8:30pm | The workshop is followed by a screening of Moving/Forward, a collection of dance film shorts from Western Canada.
Moving/ Forward brings a five-year survey of dance created for the screen by artists based in Western Canada. From flamenco to street dance, this program provides a chance to experience a lot of types of dance from a new perspective. The narrative format of the screen breaks down barriers and provide another avenue of appreciation for dance.
The program runs approximately 75 minutes and includes work by Deanna Peters, Ralph Escamillan, Nancy Lee, Kattie Coolidge, Francesca Frewer, Karissa Barry, Sabrina Comanescu, Heather Lamoureux, Nita Bowerman, Miriam Colvin, Company 605, Kim Sato, Nathan Boey, and others.
