CUTS TO ARTS FUNDING

The Provincial Government has now brought down the Budget and this still contains cuts to arts funding.  Although the budget talks of "increases" to funding for arts organisations, this is only an increase from the draconian cuts proposed last September, and the money available is much reduced from that paid out in previous years.

Also, arts funding is largely to be restricted to youth based arts programs, which may be laudable, but entirely leaves out in the cold those many arts organisations who struggle to provide exciting arts programs for the general public.

You may want to contact your MLA, the media, as well as the Provincial Premier and senior Ministers, and tell them how you feel about these plans in the Budget, and how it will likely affect your life in "The Best Place on Earth".
