A Pow Wow is a gathering of people. This Spring Break, teens will gather once again to dance, rap and share in a positive way!
Workshops: March 17-21, at VIBE Dance Studio.
Participants perform alongside guest artists: March 22, at VIU's Malaspina Theatre.
This ‘hip’ event, with support of Nanaimo Aboriginal Centre, gets teens working alongside award winning professionals who motivate and inspire! This year’s four remarkable instructors are:
AJ “MegaMan”, a world renown professional dancer, Battler & entertainer originally from Congo. He teaches Hip Hop, Popping/Animation, Memphis Jookin, Stepping/Gumboot & Bopping. He has taught dance on every continent! AJ is an important inspiration to youth and based right here in Nanaimo where he teaches at VIBE Dance Studio.
Award winning rap artist, K.A.S.P (Keeping Alive Stories for the People) Sawan is a motivational Cree hip-hop artist. He received the 2015 Canadian West Coast Hip Hop Album of the year, and 2016 BC Aboriginal excellence in the arts awards. His goal is to motivate youth to persevere no matter what happens in life.
Patrick Aleck, from Snuneymuxw, has a special gift for entertaining and inspiration. He has turned life challenges with cerebral palsy into a strength as a motivational speaker, singer of traditional songs, and knowledge keeper.
Trent Jack, of the Stz’uminus First Nation, is a youth advocate and traditional dancer. He will share the power of traditional dance.
